As a graphic designer, freelancing was not uncommon. Personal computers (the Mac specifically) were empowering. I remember getting a tiny loan for my first Mac and LaserWriter. Thankfully, no male co-signer was needed.)

I, too, got a small loan for my LaserWriter -- the second most expensive thing I owned after my car!
